What a long weekend

So here I am at work getting ready to upload my photos and start my very long blog and all of a sudden my camera won't turn on. Great.... battery dead! So here is my blog with no pictures... I will get those for you tomorrow.

Friday...
Friday was a nice day. Steve worked half a day and when he got home he ended up taking Alex to the ER to get his stitches out. I would have gone but Jack was taking a nap and I hadn't showered yet so why not send Steve. Steve said Alex was a trooper and didn't make a peep when they took the stitches out. Just looked around the room and stared at the resident.

Saturday...
We planted some flowers and got the yard picked up a bit. We are not doing much this year until the fall. I very excited to say we are added to our patio, getting rid of the pebbles and adding sod, tearing up the landscape in the back (I dislike all the plant the previous owners put back there) and added a new swing set (maybe this fall or spring, whenever we get the back ready for it). Steve took the boys to his parents house to hang out with Nick and Mya (and of course G&G V and Jen) while I stayed back and got the house cleaned, well a start on it at least. Then I met my parents at church and Mom and I went out to dinner and hit the mall. Later on that night Steve and I ended up assembling two of Alex's birthday presents until 11pm (we didn't start until 9:30) and went to bed.

Sunday...
My little guy turned ONE! I no longer have a baby!! Sunday started out with the boys waking up and playing with G&G H and then looking outside to see their new playhouse and water/sand table. They flew out the patio door as fast as they could in their PJ's and played with them for a few minutes until I made them go back inside since it was about to start raining. Thankfully it only rained for an hour and then got nice since Alex's party was outside. The kids played and then took their naps and soon the party began. Everyone had a good time and got to laugh at Alex eating his cake (and feeding Steve too). Thanks again to everyone coming and for the great gifts. I am almost positive Jack has played with them more than Alex. :)

Monday...
Monday was a beautiful day and we played outside the majority of the time. I got to clean my house up a bit from the party and Steve got the garage back to normal after washing the floor (cake, food, spilled beverages, etc).

All in all the weekend was fabulous and of course too short. No one felt like getting up this morning nor going to work. Again I still can't believe I have a one year old (I don't know why considering he has been walking for weeks and babbles like crazy). Oh the things I get to look forward to in the coming year. :)

Again, I will post pictures tonight or tomorrow... until then....

Video from the Cubs Game

I couldn't get these videos to download Monday but somehow, someway I got them today.

Here is the seventh inning stretch, some dork got to sing the song that day..... watch your speaker volume.... Jill gets a bit loud! :)

OH SNAP.... I stopped recording..... here we go again

This video shows the last pitch of the game by Woods and the crowd goes wild and starts singing our song.... again speakers may need to be turned down.... Jill got a bit crazy again.... remember it was her graduation that day!!!

Rummage Sale Find

Last Saturday on my way home from the Y one of our neighbors was having a Rummage Sale and I drove past it and found these AWESOME Little Tykes blocks. I have been searching and looking for these for about two years now (Little Tykes does not make these anymore). I was so pumped that I said to myself I don't care how much they are (I once in a while find them on Ebay going for $30-$60) I am going to get them. Well we SCORED.... the guy was selling all of them for a total of $5. Yes that is correct $5.... I just about crapped my pants! So the boys were very excited and play with them everyday. Best $5 I have spent.
Then later on in the day Chad and the girls came over to play and for dinner. Even they had a blast with the blocks and Chad couldn't believe I got them so cheap! What a happy day!!!

Congratulations Jill!

Yesterday Jill graduated from the University of Milwaukee with her Masters Degree.

What an accomplishment and finally it is over with!

Steve and I drove down to celebrate with Jill to make sure that she didn't take this accomplishment lightly.

The weather was beautiful, the mood was exciting and we were going to celebrate in style.

Here is the ceremony....

That is right boys and girls Jill wanted to skip walking the ceremony and go to a Cubs game instead. We sat in center field bleachers right down the middle.

Here we are enjoying a beer and moments later the Hot Dog man showed up....

Check out the cute couple and the group behind us.

The three of us after the game.

After the game we went to Sluggers (a bar next to Wrigley Field).

So congrats again Jill... I hope you enjoyed your big day, as much as we did!

EMERGENCY.....

When I said that Alex was going to be my emergency room baby I was only KIDDING. Well he took me seriously!

Tuesday morning started off like this..... (Grab a drink and a snack this is going to be a long story)

Our morning usually always starts with the kids in the living room watch TV while I shower and get ready for work. Today Alex was in the kitchen and Jack was in the living room watch a cartoon when I got out of the shower and proceeded to my bedroom to get dressed. All of a sudden I hear Alex crying, but nothing out of the ordinary so I thought Jack took a toy from Alex. I walked out into the kitchen to find Alex lying on the kitchen floor with his slippy cup. So I picked him up and took him into my bedroom and sat on the floor with him. He is still just fussing not screaming so I was trying to calm him down. Then all of a sudden I notice blood on my leg and thought, huh I must have cut myself shaving and then realizing that I didn't shave my legs this morning and noticed blood all over my bedroom carpet (white carpet) and found the bottom of Alex's left pj foot soaking in blood. So I grabbed a pair of scissors and cut/ripped his pj's to get his foot out of them. As I am examining his foot I come to the conclusion that he is going to need stitches and that I need to get him to the emergency room. (Now remember I just got out of the shower and I have nothing on but a towel) Now I should tell you that Steve is on the other side of town for a work meeting, Jack is standing in my bedroom holding a Kleenex telling me he has one for me to use.

So I call Steve and tell him to get home ASAP and that we need to go to the ER with Alex. I then call my brother's house hoping that my brother can come over and watch Jack and check out Alex before we head to the ER but I find out that he is still at the Fire Station (he is a fire fighter/paramedic). So next on my list is my neighbor Pam who was a sweetheart to come over and get Jack. Thankfully I was able to get a shirt and jeans on before she made it. So as I am putting Jack's coat on and Chad calls and tells me he is on his way (Yeah) so minutes later Steve pulls into the driveway and took a look at Alex's foot and realized that I was not kidding on the size of the cut. So minutes later Chad pulls in as we are piling into the van and takes a look at Alex's foot and says "yep that is a deep cut, hopefully he didn't do any damage to his tendon." Crap I didn't even think of his tendon... so of course now I am thinking worse case scenario. So Chad grabs some gaze from the trunk of his car and puts it on the laceration I say "thanks" and Steve drives us to the ER.

All I have to say is that if we have another trip to the ER in our future (and I am 99% sure we will) I hope we have the same experience as this trip. We walked in and went straight into Triage and they took our info looked at the laceration asked what happened I proceed to say I have no idea and then took us straight to the back. We were in the room for maybe five minutes and the doctor arrived. Dr Salmi took a look and asked what happened I answered again I don't know. Dr Salmi was very sweet and even sang Dora songs to Alex while he stitched him up. Alex was such a trooper, he only cried half the time only because he hated being restrained, but he was talking (well babbling), playing with Steve's cell phone and even watched Dora on TV while he was laying there (since when do they have TV's with cable in ER rooms?). After he got his foot wrapped up he was happy and acting like nothing was wrong. So of course I am thinking in the back of my mind here I am with my little guy and I have no idea how this happened and all these people have to think I am nuts so I am waiting for social services to arrive, but we are discharged and head back home.

So the first thing Steve and I did when we got home was search the kitchen to figure out what he sliced his foot on because the only thing on the floor was Alex and his sippy cup. So with Steve on his hands and knees he feels the bottom of the door on the dishwasher and low and behold there is a bow in the metal frame that holds the front panel on. So folks dishwasher are dangerous!!!!

I ended up taking the day off from work, Steve got Jack from Pam's (Thanks again!) and took him to Amy's and went back to work. Within 10 minutes of arriving at home Alex took a two hour nap and woke up happy as can be. He was walking around, playing with his toys, crawling all over the place not once showing he was in pain or uncomfortable. Well the afternoon was the same, he took another hour and a half nap and woke up happy as can be. So then we went and picked up Jack from Amy's and the two of them played for hours (you can totally tell how much they miss each other when they are separated for a few hours).

So here are some pictures from the incident. WARNING... this might gross you out if you can't stand blood or stitches.

My Birthday/Mother's Day

My birthday and Mother's Day was great! It was celebrated a bit odd but I will get into that shortly. Thursday for my birthday I had to go into work (which 99% of people end up doing) and the boys went to Amy's. After work the boys went to G&G V's for the night and Steve and I ended up going out to dinner with the Smits and Amy. We ended up going to Nakashimas of Japan for dinner and then afterwards to Escapades for a few drinks. Good Times as always!

Friday Steve and I ended up getting up and going out for breakfast and he went to pick up the boys while I went to the DMV to get my driver's license renewed since it expired on my birthday. Why do those photos have to turn out so badly?!!? So then Steve got home with the boys and we celebrated my birthday and Mother's Day all day. I got fabulous gifts which were, the plate set (see below) of 8 settings from my parents and the boys, 3 tickets to see the TimberRattlers (Minor league baseball team) against Peoria (Ryan Sandberg here I come!), flowers, and a pair of Crocs. Friday after the boys went to bed I was off on the road driving to Milwaukee to Jill's.

Saturday morning (5:30am) Jill and I drove to Detroit to spend the next 24 hours with Johnathan and Danica (Sue and the parents too) to celebrate Danica's First Communion on Sunday. The 6 plus hour drive was an adventure (our road trips usually are) and we arrived around 1pm. Hung out with the family and before we knew it we were at our hotel fast asleep.

Sunday we arrived at the church to witness Danica's First Communion and celebrate afterwards with brunch at Louis Chophouse (I think I got that right and thanks again Sue) and back to the house for cake and opening of gifts. Then it was off on the road back home. The ride back was not the greatest weather wise... it rained 90% of the time :( and we hit traffic in Chicago, but we made it back and I was off to GB soon after arrive in Milwaukee. Needless to say I arrived back to GB and the boys were fast asleep so I snuck in their rooms to say good night and I was off to bed myself.
